Blog #7 - Crunch Time

 Blog #7 - Crunch Time

Well, here it is. This is the last minor blog of the project and I have to say I don't think I ever expected to get to this point of my personal songwriting process. I have 2 nearly completed songs and will have 3 tomorrow. I definitely got a little bit scared yesterday as I thought I had come down with a head cold right as I started to record vocals, but in the end, I ended up fine and getting some great takes. I've been working ridiculously hard on the final song of the EP which I'll call Pieces of Me for now. This is a filler title, but it may not change as I finalize the project. For the last 2 days, I've been recording vocals and mixing tirelessly, which is wearing on me a bit, but I think it's improving my production abilities a ton. I've been working with compression a lot recently to transform my vocal and guitar sounds, which is something I've wanted to do for a really long time. Because I'm kind of in the middle of everything, I'm going to go over a question instead of continuing with a normal 'update.'

Describe something fun or pleasantly unexpected that happened:

One of my favorite things in any piece of music are little imperfections of pieces of speaking that come through on the track (i.e. the intro to Where Is My Mind? by The Pixies or The Ocean by Led Zeppelin). There are a couple of small moments in all 3 of the songs that make the project feel personal and intentionally lo-fi. I want this project to sound like my house and how summer feels to me so little accidentals/details add a lot to the songs. Anyways, here is the current mix of Pieces of Me. I hope you enjoy it:

  1. I am so proud of you and the way you've embraced this project! Your music is haunting! I keep thinking about how awesome it's going to be next year, when you are surrounded by other creative music makers!
